Indian Navy Decommissions INS Abhay and IN FAC T-82 after Decades of Distinguished Service

The Indian Navy held a solemn farewell ceremony for INS Abhay and IN FAC T-82, marking the decommissioning of these pivotal vessels at sunset on Sunday at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. This event signifies the conclusion of over 30 years of exemplary service to the nation.

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, presided as the Chief Guest over the ceremony. The event saw the attendance of senior naval officers, distinguished guests, the original commissioning crew, and several former Commanding Officers who once helmed the ships during their active years.

The ships were officially decommissioned under the leadership of Commander Abhay Kumar Singh and Lieutenant Commander Adishesh Mishra.

Originally commissioned in the late 1980s and early 1990s, INS Abhay and IN FAC T-82 played a significant role in the Indian Navy's operations. They were instrumental in coastal defense, surveillance, and maritime security along India's western coastline. Throughout their service, they contributed significantly to maintaining maritime readiness and supporting joint naval exercises.

As the ceremony concluded, the national flag and naval ensign were lowered in a poignant gesture, marking the vessels' retirement from active duty. The moment was filled with pride and nostalgia for the officers and sailors in attendance.

The decommissioning of INS Abhay and IN FAC T-82 highlights the Navy's ongoing modernization efforts, as part of which newer and more technologically advanced ships are being introduced to bolster India's maritime strength, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
