Indian Navy Clinches Best Marching Contingent Award at Republic Day Parade 2026
New Delhi, January 28, 2026 – The Indian Navy was honored with the Best Marching Contingent award among the three Armed Services at the Republic Day Parade 2026, which took place on January 26 at Kartavya Path. This award highlights the Navy's exceptional discipline, precision, and coordination as assessed by panels of judges appointed by the Ministry of Defence.
The contingent, consisting of around 144 personnel, was commanded by Lieutenant Karan Nagyal, with Lieutenant Pawan Kumar Gandi and Lieutenant Priti serving as Platoon Commanders. Their performance was particularly notable during the 77th Republic Day celebrations, which showcased India's military strength and cultural diversity. Videos capturing the Navy's rehearsals and parade participation have gained considerable attention online, showcasing their immaculate uniforms and flawless formations.
In the category for Central Armed Police Forces and other auxiliary forces, the Delhi Police contingent emerged as the winner. These awards were announced by the Ministry of Defence two days after the parade, highlighting the high standards set by participating units.
Alongside the marching contingents, the parade included impressive tableaux from various states, union territories, and central ministries. Maharashtra's tableau, themed "Ganeshotsav: A Symbol of Aatmanirbharta," was adjudged the best, followed by Jammu & Kashmir’s representation of "Handicrafts and Folk Dances of Jammu & Kashmir," and Kerala's "Water Metro & 100% Digital Literacy: Aatmanirbhar Kerala for Aatmanirbhar Bharat." Among central ministries, the Ministry of Culture’s tableau, "Vande Mataram – The Soul Cry of a Nation," received top honors.
A public poll conducted through the MyGov portal revealed different favorites, with the Assam Regiment being voted as the best marching contingent among the services, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) leading in the auxiliary forces category. Popular choices for tableaux included those from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
This year’s parade commemorated the 150th anniversary of "Vande Mataram," weaving together themes of national unity, self-reliance, and military strength. The Indian Navy's triumph not only celebrates its participants but also reinforces the service’s dedication to excellence in ceremonial duties, alongside its operational role in protecting India's maritime interests.
