Indian Coast Guard to use SSC for CGEPT recruitment for 2027 batches, registration opens October 6
New Delhi, 4 October 2026 — The Indian Coast Guard has said that recruitment for enrolled personnel under the Coast Guard Enrolled Personnel Test (CGEPT) batches 01/27 and 02/27 will now be conducted through the Staff Selection Commission, with online registration set to begin on 6 October 2026.
In a statement, the force said the new arrangement is intended to streamline the selection process by placing it within a single, established examination system. Candidates will submit applications through the SSC portal, while the full notification — including eligibility conditions, age limits, educational qualifications, syllabus and the examination schedule — will be issued separately on the SSC website.
CGEPT is the entry route for non-officer ranks in the Coast Guard, covering posts such as Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Yantrik. The batch numbers 01/27 and 02/27 refer to two training intakes planned for 2027. Reports have indicated that both batches are being opened together, a move expected to help fill a larger number of vacancies in a single recruitment cycle.
Until now, such recruitment had been handled largely through the Coast Guard’s own system. Under the new process, the written examination stage will be managed through the SSC framework, after which shortlisted candidates will move on to the remaining stages conducted by the Coast Guard. These will include physical fitness assessment, document verification and medical examination.
The Coast Guard has advised aspirants to keep track of the SSC website for the official advertisement and application instructions. Operating under the Ministry of Defence, the force is responsible for maritime security, search and rescue, and enforcement of maritime laws in India’s coastal waters and exclusive economic zone.
