Indian Authorities Remove Encroachments Outside Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi in Reciprocal Move

Indian authorities have removed unauthorised structures and encroachments outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, in a move that came days after Pakistani authorities took down parking poles installed outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

The clearing operation was carried out by the concerned agencies near the visa section of the Pakistani diplomatic mission, with the structures found outside the designated perimeter of the compound, according to reports. The action has been seen as a reciprocal response in the context of continuing friction between the two countries.

The latest development fits into a pattern of mirrored administrative steps involving diplomatic premises in both capitals, as India and Pakistan have often responded to actions affecting their missions with similar measures. Even routine issues around mission security and access tend to acquire heightened significance when bilateral ties are already under strain.

Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad have remained severely restricted for an extended period, with formal engagement limited and trust between the two sides at a low ebb. The latest episode is being viewed against that backdrop of persistent diplomatic distance.

Tensions escalated sharply after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. In the aftermath, India launched Operation Sindoor against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. That led to a military confrontation between the two sides before a ceasefire was reached, but the broader relationship has continued to remain tense.

India has repeatedly said that any normalisation with Pakistan depends on an environment free from terrorism and violence. As a result, several bilateral restrictions remain in place, including limits on trade and visas, along with changes in diplomatic staffing.

Despite the strained political climate, the two militaries have retained limited lines of communication. Contacts between the Directors General of Military Operations have continued, providing a channel to address security-related matters and help sustain the ceasefire.

The latest reciprocal action around the diplomatic missions highlights the sensitivity attached to the functioning and security of Indian and Pakistani establishments in each other’s capitals. With relations still at a low point, both sides are likely to keep a close watch on developments around their missions as they manage the wider fallout of the continuing dispute.
