Indian Army to Enhance Strike Capability with New 800+ Km Range BrahMos Missile Order

The Indian Army is preparing to make a significant procurement of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, specifically the variant with a range exceeding 800 kilometers. This acquisition aims to considerably bolster the Army's ability to conduct long-range precision strikes.

Approval Expected Soon

Currently, the proposal awaits authorization from the Ministry of Defence. A decision is anticipated following an upcoming high-level meeting within the next few days.

Proven in Operation Sindoor

The BrahMos missile has already proven its effectiveness during Operation Sindoor, where it successfully targeted critical infrastructure, including enemy air bases.

Major Capability Upgrade

At present, the Army's BrahMos missiles possess a strike range of around 450 kilometers. The introduction of the 800+ kilometer variant will:

Expand deep strike capability
Improve deterrence posture
Enable precision engagement of distant high-value targets

Focus on New-Age Warfare

This development is part of a larger strategy to embrace modern, technology-driven warfare. The initiatives include:

Raising dedicated drone regiments and platoons
Expanding missile forces
Large-scale induction and indigenous production of drones

Joint Production and Indigenisation

The BrahMos missile is a result of a joint venture between India and Russia, with recent variants seeing a growing degree of indigenization.

Future Plans: Tejas Integration

Work is underway to develop next-generation BrahMos missiles, which are expected to be compatible with indigenous platforms like the HAL Tejas. This effort aims to enhance self-reliance and operational flexibility.

The impending acquisition of the 800+ kilometer range BrahMos missiles represents a critical advancement in India's ability to execute long-range strikes, thereby strengthening deterrence and preparedness for future multi-domain warfare scenarios.
