Indian Army Soldiers Sacrifice Lives in Intense Kulgam Encounter

Two members of the Indian Army, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed in a gun battle with terrorists in the Guddar forest region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday. Another soldier sustained injuries during the encounter.

The operation was initiated by security forces early in the morning following intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists in the area. The situation escalated into an exchange of gunfire when the terrorists engaged the forces.

Bravehearts Identified

The Army identified the deceased soldiers as Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu, both belonging to the elite paratrooper unit.

The Army conveyed, “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, Sub Perbhat Gaur and L/Nk Narender Sindhu, in line of duty for the Nation. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. The Indian Army expresses deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved families. Operation continues,” via a post on X.

Encounter Details

In the initial exchange of fire, one terrorist — a local recruit — was killed in an orchard area.
The encounter later spread to the nearby forest, where the JCO sustained critical injuries.
Security forces subsequently neutralised a second terrorist, believed to be a foreign national, though official identification of both slain terrorists is still awaited.

Second Major Clash in 5 Weeks

This marks the second significant encounter in Kulgam within a little over a month. In August, an extended 11-day operation in the Akhal forest resulted in intense fighting, leading to the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to 10 others.

Amid rising infiltration attempts and militant activities in forested regions, security forces have ramped up counter-terror operations in South Kashmir.
