Indian Army Soldier Naik Manjeet Singh Passes Away During Training; Honored with Military Rites
The Indian Army is mourning the loss of one of its soldiers, Naik Manjeet Singh, 33, from the 8 Sikh Light Infantry, who succumbed to a heart attack during training. Singh, hailing from Redbaggi village in Sriganganagar, had just returned from a leave five days prior to his training session.
Family members revealed that the soldier, who had recently received a promotion, was stationed in Jammu and Kashmir before heading to Shahjahanpur for training. Reports indicate that his health began to decline on December 23, leading to a fatal heart attack.
Upon the arrival of his body at his home village on Thursday, the atmosphere was filled with grief. His wife, along with their two-year-old son, tenderly touched his body, a poignant moment that deeply moved family, villagers, and fellow soldiers.
Final Farewell With Full Military Honours
The funeral of Naik Manjeet Singh was conducted with full military honours. Subedar Major Maan Singh Chauhan noted the presence of both Army and civil administration officials who gathered to pay their respects. Among the attendees was Retd Havildar Gurdyal Singh, 75, from 8 Sikh LI, who fondly remembered the fallen soldier.
Manjeet Singh’s niece, Rajwinder Kaur, recounted that he had been home on leave earlier in December and had departed for training on December 20. She emotionally remarked, “He returned home only after his death.” His seven-year-old son, Namandeep, supported by relatives, shared in the family's sorrow.
Relatives also mentioned that Singh had complained of chest pain during his leave and had intended to seek medical attention during his training period.
With 12 years of service to the nation, Naik Manjeet Singh's sudden death has left a significant void in his family and military unit. His dedication and commitment were honored with respect and solemnity as the nation bid farewell to a soldier who served until his final moments.
