Indian Army’s 21 Jat Regiment Soldiers Step in as Fathers for Wedding of Fallen Comrade’s Daughter

In a poignant display of camaraderie, members of the Indian Army's 21 Jat Regiment stepped into the role of father during the wedding of Prachi, daughter of the late Havildar Harendra Singh. Both serving and retired soldiers from the regiment took on traditional paternal duties, ensuring Prachi felt no absence during her wedding ceremonies.

Havildar Harendra Singh, hailing from Katha village in Baghpat district, had served with distinction in the 21 Jat Regiment before his life was tragically cut short in a road accident in Arunachal Pradesh in 2020. He left behind his wife, Amrita, daughter Prachi, and sons Harshit and Akshit.

Prachi was wed to Shubham, whose father is Chaudhary Praveen Kumar from Kaniyan village in Shamli district. Shubham works as an Assistant Bank Manager. Their wedding was held on March 9, 2026, at Basant Garden on Baraut Road, Baghpat. Fourteen soldiers, both active and retired, attended the ceremony in uniform after taking leave to support the family.

The soldiers took on all responsibilities for the bride's side during the wedding. They greeted the groom's party, participated in the jaimala ceremony by lifting Prachi onto the stage, conducted the kanyadaan, joined the saat phere, and orchestrated an emotional vidai. Together, they contributed approximately ₹6.5 lakh towards the kanyadaan.

Notable attendees included Retired Honorary Captain Yashpal Singh, Retired Honorary Captain Rajesh Gulia, Subedar Dharmveer Singh, Subedar Ramratan, Subedar Dharmendra, and Havildar Kiranpal.

A video of the ceremony has gained widespread attention on social media, drawing admiration for the regiment's remarkable unity. Villagers from Katha and the groom's family described the event as deeply touching, highlighting the Indian Army's tradition of embracing their fallen comrades' families.

This event is a testament to the lasting bond of "fauji brotherhood" that endures beyond active service or death. The 21 Jat Regiment has once again affirmed its unwavering support for its members and their families, even after their service ends.

The family of Havildar Harendra Singh expressed profound gratitude, noting that the regiment's involvement turned what could have been a somber day into one filled with joy and pride. Acts like these reinforce public confidence in the values of duty, honor, and unity that are hallmarks of India's armed forces.

As the video continues to circulate, the story has struck a chord nationally, generating messages of respect and admiration for the 21 Jat Regiment's embodiment of genuine military camaraderie.
