Indian Army Repels BAT Strike in Uri; Two Soldiers Sacrifice Lives

The Indian Army successfully thwarted a significant Border Action Team (BAT) strike and infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) near Tikka Post in the Uri sector of Baramulla district during the night of August 12–13. The attack, orchestrated by Pakistan-based terrorists under the cover of night, targeted a forward post within the Area of Responsibility of 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) and the jurisdiction of Police Station Uri.
Indian troops, remaining vigilant, responded promptly, preventing the infiltration attempt and compelling the attackers to retreat. Following this, a large-scale cordon and search operation was launched to track the infiltrators.
During the fierce exchange of gunfire, Havaldar Ankit and Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar sustained fatal injuries while defending their position. The Army honored Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar on social media, with the Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi offering condolences to his family and acknowledging his sacrifice.
This incident occurs amid the ongoing Operation Akhal, initiated on August 1 following intelligence regarding terrorist activity in South Kashmir’s Akhal forest area. This operation has already resulted in the deaths of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, along with the elimination of more than five terrorists.
Operation Akhal is part of a series of high-intensity anti-terror missions, such as Operation Mahadev near Srinagar’s Dachigam area and Operation Shiv Shakti, which collectively dismantled multiple Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives responsible for recent massacres. Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance along the LoC as tensions persist.
