Indian Army Recognizes Civilian Contributions in Operation Sindoor Ceremony
A ceremony was held by the Indian Army's Ace of Spades Division on Friday in Rajouri to honor civilians who significantly contributed during Operation Sindoor. Twenty-five individuals from the Rajouri and Poonch districts were recognized for their vital roles in casualty evacuation, rescue operations, and humanitarian efforts during this high-stakes counter-terrorism mission.
The event was led by Major General Kaushik Mukherji, the General Officer Commanding of the Ace of Spades Division. Attendees included senior civil administration officials, healthcare workers, media members, military veterans, and the families of those involved in the operation.
The proceedings commenced with a compelling video montage that highlighted the collaboration between the armed forces and local residents, which was crucial for the success of Operation Sindoor. A two-minute silence was observed to honor those who sacrificed their lives, including Rajouri's Additional Deputy Commissioner, Raj Kumar Thapa.
In his address, Maj Gen Mukherji emphasized that Operation Sindoor represented more than just a military initiative; it was a national declaration of India's commitment to protecting its citizens and responding to threats with precision and determination. He commended the bravery and dedication of the civilians who worked alongside the Army, often at great personal risk, to provide essential support during the crisis.
He further acknowledged the civilians' role in maintaining social cohesion and preventing fear from tearing apart the societal structure. "Your contribution ensured that our response to terror was not just forceful, but also humane," he stated.
This recognition forms part of the Army's broader initiative to honor the unsung heroes whose efforts are critical to the success of such missions. Operation Sindoor, which began in May 2025 after a significant terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure across the border and was characterized by precise coordination and strong civil-military cooperation.
The event highlighted the powerful unity between the armed forces and local communities in defending national interests and restoring peace in areas affected by conflict.
