Indian Army Paratrooper Subedar Sunil Kumar Donates Organs After Death, Restores Sight to Four
Subedar Sunil Kumar S, an Indian Army paratrooper who wore the coveted Balidaan Badge of the Special Forces, has left behind a rare posthumous legacy of service after his family consented to organ donation that restored sight to four people.
The soldier suffered a fatal brain haemorrhage while serving in a forward area. He was evacuated for treatment and admitted to Command Hospital, Chandimandir, where doctors made efforts to save him.
Despite medical intervention, Subedar Sunil Kumar could not recover and was declared brain-dead at the military hospital. In the midst of the family’s loss, his relatives made the decision to honour what is described as his noble intent by agreeing to organ donation.
The donation process was carried out by doctors at Command Hospital, Chandimandir. Through that decision, the soldier’s final act helped provide the gift of sight to four individuals, turning a deeply personal tragedy into an outcome that brought hope to others.
