Indian Army Officer Assaults SpiceJet Staff Over 7 KG Excess Cabin Luggage; Four Employees Injured

A shocking case of in-flight rage has emerged from Srinagar airport, where a senior Army officer allegedly assaulted multiple SpiceJet ground staff after refusing to pay for excess cabin baggage. The altercation, which occurred on July 26, left four employees seriously injured, including one with a spinal fracture and another with a broken jaw.
The Incident: A Refusal That Turned Violent
According to an official statement from SpiceJet, the officer, scheduled to board a flight to Delhi, was carrying two cabin bags totaling 16 kg more than double the 7 kg limit allowed for domestic flights. Upon being informed of the excess baggage charges, the officer refused to comply and forcefully entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding procedure, violating airport security norms.
“He was escorted back to the gate by a CISF official. At the gate, he became aggressive and physically assaulted four of our ground staff,” the airline said in its statement.
Brutal Assault Caught on Camera
Disturbing visuals from the airport show the officer repeatedly striking staff members with a check-in gate information board. Despite efforts by CISF personnel to restrain him, the officer continued threatening and abusing the employees.
SpiceJet revealed the graphic details of the injuries:
- One staff member suffered a spinal fracture and lost consciousness after being beaten with a queue stand.
- Another was kicked in the jaw, causing severe bleeding from the nose and mouth.
- All injured personnel were rushed to a hospital and remain under medical care.
SpiceJet’s Response: Legal Action Initiated
SpiceJet has filed a formal police complaint and is in the process of placing the officer on a no-fly list. The airline has also written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, describing the assault as “murderous” and demanding strict action.
“SpiceJet strongly condemns any act of violence against its employees and will pursue this matter to its fullest legal and regulatory conclusion,” the statement added.
CISF and Army React
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for airport security, confirmed that its officers acted promptly to control the situation and ensured no disruption to flight operations.
Meanwhile, Army sources confirmed that senior military officials have taken note of the incident and assured cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
