Indian Army Launches 'Operation SHIVA 2025' to Secure Amarnath Yatra

The Indian Army has initiated 'Operation SHIVA 2025' to ensure the Amarnath Yatra is conducted securely and efficiently. The operation involves close collaboration with the Civil Administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), reflecting the Army's dedication to protecting the multitude of pilgrims navigating the rugged terrain of Jammu and Kashmir on this sacred journey.

Operation SHIVA 2025 aims to establish a robust security framework through innovative counter-terrorism strategies, proactive deployments, and corridor protection. These measures are vital due to heightened threats from Pakistan-supported terrorist factions, especially after the recent Operation Sindoor. The protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) introduced this year are intended to serve as enduring security measures for future yatras.

The operation has deployed over 8,500 troops across the Northern and Southern Yatra routes, backed by various operational and technological resources. These include upwards of 50 Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS), electronic warfare systems to neutralize drone threats, regular UAV surveillance missions, and real-time monitoring of the Holy Cave and nearby paths.

Infrastructure and disaster preparedness are also receiving significant attention. Engineer task forces have been deployed for track widening, bridge construction, and emergency response readiness. Medical support comprises over 150 doctors and staff, two Advanced Dressing Stations, nine Medical Aid Posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths supplied with 200,000 liters of oxygen.

Signal Companies have been established to ensure seamless communication, while EME detachments handle technical maintenance. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, along with Quick Reaction Teams, stand ready for emergencies. Provisions such as emergency rations for 25,000 people, tent cities, water stations, bulldozers, and excavators are strategically positioned for immediate use. Indian Army helicopters are prepared for rapid evacuation and crisis management.

To sustain continuous situational awareness, the movement of convoys from Jammu to the Holy Cave is tracked in real time with high-resolution PTZ cameras and drone feeds. This real-time monitoring system facilitates quick threat identification and rapid deployment of forces, ensuring seamless coordination among all security and support agencies.

Operation SHIVA 2025 exemplifies the Indian Army's proactive, technology-driven stance on internal security and disaster management. The operation is designed to offer a secure, uninterrupted, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience to all participants of the Amarnath Yatra.
