Indian Army Honors Fallen Soldier Lance Dafadar Bharvad Mehulbhai Mepabhai in Ganderbal

The Indian Army's Northern Command, led by Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, honored Lance Dafadar Bharvad Mehulbhai Mepabhai, who sacrificed his life while on duty in the Ganderbal district.

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at a military base, where the soldier’s coffin, draped in the Indian Tricolour and adorned with marigold flowers, was the focal point of the tribute. Officers and troops of all ranks gathered in silence to salute the bravery and dedication of the fallen soldier.

The Army reiterated its commitment to supporting the soldier's family, underscoring the nation's solidarity with the families of its fallen heroes.

Ganderbal, located near Srinagar, holds strategic importance due to its challenging mountainous terrain and its history of militancy. Established as a separate district in 2007, it remains a sensitive area where soldiers encounter ongoing challenges.

Since its re-establishment in 1972, the Northern Command has been focused on strengthening its leadership, including the June 2025 appointment of a Command Subedar Major, aimed at improving coordination and morale.

The Indian Army has stated that the sacrifice made by Lance Dafadar Bharvad Mehulbhai Mepabhai will be forever remembered as the country mourns the loss of a courageous defender of the nation.
