Indian Army Enhances Guerrilla Warfare Skills of Village Defence Guards in Doda District
The Indian Army has launched a specialised training programme in guerrilla warfare for Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. This initiative aims to bolster counter-terrorism measures in the region.
This training is designed to improve the operational skills, situational awareness, and defensive capabilities of VDGs, particularly in remote and sensitive areas susceptible to terrorist activities. Participants are being instructed in essential guerrilla tactics, weapon handling, ambush and counter-ambush techniques, surveillance, and coordination with security forces.
Army instructors are focusing on familiarising participants with the local terrain, night vigilance strategies, and rapid response tactics. This preparation is intended to enable VDGs to serve as an effective first line of defence and provide intelligence support to security forces.
This effort underscores the Indian Army’s dedication to community-based security approaches, equipping local volunteers to play an active role in counter-terrorism operations and enhancing the overall security framework in the Chenab Valley region.
The training is anticipated to significantly increase local resilience against terrorist threats and strengthen the collaboration between civilians and the armed forces, thereby contributing to the maintenance of peace and security in the area.
