Indian Army Engineers Support Sri Lanka's Cyclone Recovery Efforts
Following the extensive damage inflicted by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka, the Indian Army has mobilized a specialized engineering team to aid in relief and reconstruction efforts as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu. This team includes sappers from the renowned Strike One Sappers under Northern Command.
The army's public information office reported that this unit is a high-readiness, self-sufficient Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) contingent from the Shatrujeet Brigade. It is equipped to restore crucial infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, and assist with rebuilding efforts in heavily affected areas of Sri Lanka.

This engineering group's deployment comes after Indian Air Force transport aircraft and navy relief consignments, under Operation Sagar Bandhu, delivered essential supplies, including food, medical resources, and emergency equipment, to areas impacted by floods and landslides.
With significant damage to bridges and roadways reported across various districts in Sri Lanka, the participation of trained sappers highlights India's dedication to long-term recovery efforts beyond immediate rescue and relief. These sappers are set to collaborate with local authorities and humanitarian organizations to restore vital mobility and rebuild essential infrastructure, crucial for civilian rehabilitation and the continuity of relief supply chains.

Operation Sagar Bandhu is ongoing, with additional Army, Air Force, Navy, and medical teams prepared to support Sri Lanka in its recovery from the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
