Indian Army Engages in Defence Innovation Symposium at IIT (BHU) Varanasi
The Indian Army took part in the Technex’26 Defence Symposium 2.0 held at IIT (BHU) in Varanasi. Organized under the auspices of Surya Command, the event provided a platform for engagement between the army, students, researchers, and innovators, focusing on the future of defence technology and military-civil partnerships.
The symposium emphasized enhancing military-civil collaboration and fostering innovation to tackle new security challenges.
Major General Amit Singh Sohal, who is the General Officer Commanding of Purva UP & MP Sub Area, addressed the attendees, underscoring the Indian Army's vision for a tech-driven transformation.
He detailed the Army's strategic focus under the Decade of Transformation and the Year of Networking and Data Centricity 2026. During his address, he highlighted the significance of emerging technologies like drones, artificial intelligence, cyber capabilities, and autonomous systems in shaping future battlefields.
The event also promoted the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, urging collaboration between the Indian Army, academic institutions, startups, and innovators to develop indigenous defence technologies.
Participants learned about initiatives such as the Army Design Bureau and the Compendium of Problem Statements, which seek innovative solutions from academia and industry to address national security challenges.
The Indian Army also showcased a variety of advanced military equipment, including nano, micro, and large drones, weapons, communication radio sets, night vision devices, warfare vehicles, robotic mules, and artillery systems.
This display allowed students to gain insight into evolving military technologies and operational needs, sparking interest in defence innovation and research.
The symposium underscored the Indian Army's commitment to fostering a robust ecosystem of defence innovation through collaboration with academic institutions and technology startups.
