Indian Army Completes Apache AH-64E Helicopter Fleet With Final Delivery from US

On December 16, 2025, the Indian Army officially received the last three AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the United States, finalizing its fleet of six for the 451 Army Aviation Squadron stationed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Prior to their deployment on the western border, the helicopters arrived at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad to enhance the Army's attack aviation capabilities.

The initial three Apaches were delivered in July 2025 after experiencing a 15-month delay due to technical and supply chain challenges in the US. Known as the "Flying Tank," the Apache AH-64E is regarded as one of the most sophisticated multirole combat helicopters globally. It is armed with Hellfire missiles, 70 mm rockets, a 30 mm chain gun, and features advanced sensors and night-fighting capabilities, alongside networked warfare systems, making it particularly effective in mountainous and high-threat environments.

The Indian Army established its first Apache squadron in Jodhpur in March 2024, but had been awaiting the helicopters' arrival. The acquisition of the six Apaches was secured through a USD 600-million agreement signed in 2020, with initial delivery schedules set for mid-2024. The AH-64E model boasts 26 advanced technologies, such as enhanced digital connectivity, the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System, improved T700-GE-701D engines, advanced rotor blades, and real-time control over unmanned aerial vehicles.

On a global scale, more than 400 AH-64Es have been delivered, with the US Army's fleet having accumulated over 4.5 million flight hours. In a separate development, the Indian Air Force has already commissioned 22 Apache helicopters from a different order placed in 2015, further bolstering India's attack helicopter capabilities.
