Indian Armed Forces Initiate 'Operation SAHYOG' to Support Landslide-Affected Villages in Manipur

The Indian Armed Forces have initiated Operation SAHYOG, a significant humanitarian relief mission, to aid remote villages in Manipur’s Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur district, which have been isolated due to severe landslides since July 17. This joint operation involves the Assam Rifles and the Indian Air Force, which have already delivered six tons of essential relief supplies to over 1,500 residents affected by the natural disaster.
These landslides, triggered by continuous monsoon rains, have cut off a total of 18 villages, severely damaging roads and infrastructure. To reach these isolated areas, military helicopters and trucks have been deployed to transport food and vital supplies. Troops are actively engaged on the ground, dealing with challenging weather and rugged terrain to ensure the distribution of these supplies.

Officials acknowledge the ongoing difficulties posed by unpredictable weather and unstable slopes, which make the role of the armed forces crucial in delivering timely aid. Environmental experts attribute the increase in landslide risks in Northeast India to climate change, noting a 15–20 percent rise in intense monsoon events over the past decade.
During the operation, troops discovered a painted milestone marked "MASTIC" with Islamic symbols, believed to be a cultural marker related to a local community. This finding adds a unique socio-cultural aspect to the military's involvement in the region.

The Indian Armed Forces have committed to continuing their support and are closely monitoring the situation to provide further assistance as needed. Operation SAHYOG highlights the military's dedication to helping the nation's most vulnerable communities in times of crisis.
