Indian Air Force Trainer Aircraft Crashes Near Chennai; Pilot Ejects Safely
A PC-7 Mk II basic trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Tambaram, Chennai, on Thursday while on a routine training mission. The incident took place at around 1425 hours, initiating an immediate response from both Air Force personnel and local authorities.
The pilot, engaged in a solo training sortie, managed to eject safely and is currently in stable condition. Due to the controlled nature of the ejection and the aircraft landing in an open area, there were no reports of damage to civilian properties or injuries to local residents.
The IAF has initiated a Court of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the crash and determine its cause. Initial information suggests the aircraft encountered an unforeseen issue mid-flight, necessitating the pilot's ejection.
The PC-7 Mk II, produced by Pilatus Aircraft, is an essential part of the IAF's basic training fleet and is extensively used for introductory flight training of cadets at various Air Force training facilities.
Further information will be released as the investigation continues.
