India-UAE Defence Leaders Meet to Enhance Maritime Security and Joint Defence Collaboration

India and the United Arab Emirates have advanced their defence cooperation following a high-level meeting between General Anil Chauhan, India’s Chief of Defence Staff, and Major General Humaid Mohammed Abdullah Al Rumaithi, Commander of the UAE Naval Forces. The discussions in New Delhi underscored the strengthening strategic ties between the two countries.
The main focus of the talks was on improving maritime security, increasing joint training exercises, and enhancing the interoperability between the Indian and UAE armed forces.

General Chauhan highlighted India’s dedication to maintaining a secure and stable maritime environment in the Indian Ocean Region, which is of growing geostrategic significance. Major General Al Rumaithi expressed his interest in increasing naval interactions and exploring cooperation in advanced defence technologies and joint production initiatives.
This meeting comes at a crucial time with increasing maritime insecurity in the Red Sea, marked by ongoing Houthi rebel attacks on cargo vessels that disrupt commercial shipping. The recent attack on the ship Eternity illustrates the urgent need for coordinated maritime responses, emphasizing the importance of bilateral defence engagements like this one.
Both military leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based international order and the protection of critical sea lanes. The meeting builds on previous commitments made during a virtual summit where India and the UAE agreed to heighten efforts against terrorism and enhance maritime collaboration.
The discussions also hinted at future collaborations in defence research and development, production partnerships, and regional security initiatives, solidifying the India-UAE relationship as a comprehensive strategic partnership founded on mutual trust and shared security interests.
