India and Russia Strengthen Military Cooperation with High-Level Army Discussions
The Indian Army and the Russian Land Forces convened for high-level military talks during the 5th Sub-Working Group (Land) meeting under the India Russia Inter Governmental Commission (IRIGC) on military and military-technical cooperation.
The Indian Army reported that the meeting concluded successfully, marking a significant step in fortifying the enduring defence partnership between India and Russia.
Discussions between the two sides centered on enhancing mutual learning, operational synergy, and bilateral military capabilities while exploring new cooperation opportunities between their armies.
During the engagement, the Russian delegation visited the Shatrujeet Brigade to explore further opportunities for defence collaboration and operational exchange.
The discussions align with the broader context of expanding India-Russia cooperation in strategic sectors such as defence manufacturing, space exploration, and military technology.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated that New Delhi and Moscow were in detailed discussions concerning joint weapons production, defence industrial cooperation, and space sector collaboration.
Officials also pointed out the implementation of a bilateral military logistics agreement effective from January 12, 2026. This agreement allows both nations to station up to 3,000 troops, along with limited naval and air assets, in each other’s territories for exercises, training, and cooperation activities.
The agreement, signed in February 2025, is considered a crucial development in enhancing interoperability and fostering long-term strategic coordination between the armed forces of both countries.
India and Russia have maintained deep defence ties for decades, with cooperation extending across areas including military hardware, training, technology transfer, and joint production initiatives.
