IAF Su-30MKI Crash in Assam Claims Lives of Two Fighter Pilots
Tragedy struck the Indian Air Force on Thursday evening as two fighter pilots lost their lives following the crash of a Su-30MKI aircraft in Assam. The fighter jet, which had departed from the Jorhat airbase, was on a training mission when it lost communication with ground control, leading to concerns and an overdue report.
Initial findings indicate that the aircraft last communicated with the Air Force around 7:42 PM before all contact was severed. In response, emergency measures were quickly enacted, prompting a search and rescue mission in the surrounding area.
The ill-fated aircraft was later found to have crashed in the hilly terrain of Karbi Anglong, roughly 60 kilometers away from Jorhat. Search teams, along with security forces, were dispatched to the site to locate the wreckage and the crew.
Confirmation came from the Indian Air Force that the crash claimed the lives of Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, both of whom suffered fatal injuries in the accident.
In a formal announcement, the Indian Air Force mourned the loss of the two officers, extending heartfelt condolences to their families. The statement emphasized the Air Force's support, saying, "All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved families in this time of grief."
At the time of the accident, the Su-30MKI was engaged in a routine training exercise. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, with ongoing search and recovery efforts in the vicinity of the crash site.
