IAF’s 220 Squadron ‘Desert Tigers’ Marks 60 Years of Service with Diamond Jubilee Celebration
The 220 Squadron, renowned as the Desert Tigers, marked its Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of exceptional service, bravery, and steadfast dedication to the nation. This significant event honored the squadron's enduring legacy and notable contributions to the Indian Air Force.
The celebrations were attended by Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, and Air Marshal J S Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer of the Western Air Command. Many veterans joined the event, reflecting on their service and the sacrifices that have defined the squadron's reputation over the past six decades.

A highlight of the event was a stunning display by the Air Warrior Drill Team, which demonstrated remarkable precision, discipline, and teamwork. The Akashganga Team's performance added further grandeur, earning widespread admiration and exemplifying the spirit and professionalism of the Indian Air Force.

Throughout its storied history, the Desert Tigers have played pivotal roles in major conflicts, including the 1965 and 1971 wars, and executed vital missions during the Kargil conflict. More recently, the squadron has actively participated in Operation Sindoor, highlighting its ongoing importance in contemporary operations.

As it celebrates sixty years, 220 Squadron continues to maintain the highest traditions of the Indian Air Force—remaining vigilant, prepared, and victorious, serving as a symbol of combat excellence and operational readiness.
