HQ Integrated Defence Staff Celebrates Silver Jubilee, Reaffirms Push for Tri-Service Integration
Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) marked its Silver Jubilee on October 1, 2026, celebrating 25 years since its establishment on October 1, 2001. The occasion was observed as Tri-Service Day and centred on the theme “Future readiness through jointness & Integration”.
As part of the celebrations, HQ IDS hosted Trishakti Manthan, which featured addresses by Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, General N. S. Raja Subramani, and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee, Air Marshal Tejinder Singh.
The discussions during the event highlighted HQ IDS’ role in improving operational preparedness through joint operational doctrines, joint training frameworks, integrated exercises and stronger coordination of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief mechanisms.
The Silver Jubilee was also marked by the release of a Silver Jubilee Book documenting the organisation’s evolution and achievements over the past 25 years. A film showcasing key milestones since the establishment of HQ IDS was also released on the occasion.

Personnel who made distinguished contributions toward strengthening jointness and integration were also honoured with prestigious CDS Unit Citations. According to the release, the citations recognised their role in advancing the objectives of jointness and integration within the Defence Forces.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the National War Memorial & Museum to pay tribute to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
Over the past two and a half decades, HQ IDS has played a role in preparing the Defence Forces for emerging domains such as Cyber, Space and Artificial Intelligence. It has also encouraged collaboration with research organisations, academia and industry to speed up indigenous capability development in line with Atmanirbharta in Defence.
The organisation has also strengthened institutional mechanisms for jointness through platforms such as Ran Samwad, the Joint Commanders’ Conference and the Combined Operational Review and Evaluation Programme. These forums are used for structured discussion on contemporary security challenges and for improving joint warfighting capabilities across land, maritime, air, space, cyber and cognitive domains.
HQ IDS has evolved over 25 years as an institution focused on strengthening jointness, integration and synergy among the three Services. Its work has remained centred on capability enhancement and the joint employment of combat power in line with national security objectives.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations served as a reflection on this institutional journey while reaffirming the emphasis on future readiness through greater jointness and integration. The theme “Future readiness through jointness & Integration” captured the focus on preparing the Defence Forces for emerging security challenges and strengthening coordination across multiple operational domains.
The 25th anniversary thus marked two-and-a-half decades of efforts to improve coordination among the three Services, develop joint frameworks and strengthen India’s operational preparedness through greater integration and synergy.
