Haryana Army Jawan Vikas Deshwal Dies of Heart Attack After Morning Parade in Patiala
Panipat/Patiala, October 25, 2026: Indian Army jawan Vikas Deshwal, 29, from Haryana died of a heart attack in Patiala after complaining of sudden chest pain during a morning parade, and his mortal remains were brought to his native village of Matlauda in Panipat district on Sunday, where he was cremated with military honours.
Deshwal, son of the late Ved Singh Deshwal, had joined the Indian Army on 14 June 2014 and was serving with the 501 Battalion at the time of the incident. Reports say he first felt chest pain on the morning of 23 October during parade duties. Unit personnel took him to hospital after the complaint. The pain returned on the morning of 24 October, and doctors found that he had stopped breathing. He was declared dead after a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife, a six-year-old son, Vivan, and an eight-day-old daughter whom he had not been able to see. His father had died about eight months earlier. Villagers described him as cheerful by nature, and his sudden death has left the family and the village in shock.
At the funeral in Matlauda, the six-year-old son placed flowers on his father’s body and paid his respects with folded hands, a scene that moved those gathered there. Army personnel paid military honours before the last rites were performed. The family was informed of his death through Commander S. Sachin.
The death is being reported as a physical casualty caused by a heart attack, not as an operational or battle-related incident. Local reports have highlighted the emotional strain on the young family, which has been left without a father at a critical time.
This account is based on contemporaneous reports from Dainik Bhaskar and Punjab Kesari dated 25 October 2026. Details such as the wife’s name and the exact hospital involved have not been publicly confirmed in the available reports.
