Gurindervir Singh Sets New National Record as India's Fastest Man with 10.09-Second Sprint
The Indian Navy is celebrating a remarkable feat in national athletics after Petty Officer Gurindervir Singh set a new record in the men's 100m sprint at the 29th National Federation Cup Athletics Championships held in Ranchi.
Gurindervir Singh achieved an extraordinary time of 10.09 seconds at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium, making him the first Indian to complete the 100m sprint in under 10.1 seconds, thereby establishing a new national benchmark.
The Indian Navy commended this achievement with the statement, “The Fastest Man in India Wears Whites,” acknowledging Singh's historic performance and his qualification for the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
Praising his determination, speed, and commitment, the Navy described Singh’s achievement as a proud moment for both the naval service and Indian athletics.
After the race, Gurindervir expressed his satisfaction with his success, attributing his performance to mental resilience.
In the semifinals, the Indian Navy athlete had already impressed by breaking the national record with a time of 10.17 seconds. This was shortly followed by fellow sprinter Animesh Kujur, who set a new record of 10.15 seconds in a subsequent semifinal.
However, Gurindervir reclaimed the national record with a stunning 10.09 seconds in the championship final, securing his place in history with this remarkable feat.
Animesh Kujur finished second in the final event, while Pranav Gurav took third place.
This achievement signifies a significant milestone for Indian athletics and underscores the increasing contributions of Armed Forces athletes to international sports and competitive excellence.
