General Upendra Dwivedi Appointed Honorary Colonel of J&K Rifles and Ladakh Scouts Regiment
The Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and the Ladakh Scouts Regiment proudly announced that General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), has taken on the esteemed role of Honorary Colonel of the Regiment.
This appointment was officially confirmed at a formal ceremony on 22 June 2026. During the event, the Honorary Colonel’s Baton was handed to the Army Chief by Lieutenant General M.P. Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, Colonel of the Regiment, in the presence of serving General Officers of the Regiment.

This new role is a testament to General Dwivedi’s illustrious military journey, which spans four decades and highlights his dedication to the nation. As the 30th Chief of the Army Staff, he has held various significant command, staff, and instructional positions, playing a vital role in enhancing the operational efficiency and modernization of the Indian Army.
General Dwivedi's connection with the Regiment is profound, having served as its Colonel of the Regiment from 1 February 2022 to 30 June 2024. In that period, he significantly contributed to reinforcing the Regiment’s traditions, operational ethos, and welfare activities.

The Honorary Colonel appointment highlights the Regiment’s respect for General Dwivedi’s leadership and professional achievements. His continued involvement will provide valuable guidance and leadership to the Regiment.
