General Dhiraj Seth Reviews Indigenous Drone, Quantum and Space Tech at Bengaluru Army Workshop

Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth visited the 515 Army Base Workshop in Bengaluru to review work on advanced manufacturing, indigenous drone development and other emerging technologies being pursued to improve the Indian Army’s operational capability and technological self-reliance.

During the visit, General Seth examined ongoing efforts in advanced manufacturing as well as the development of indigenous unmanned aerial systems. He also reviewed newer technology areas such as additive manufacturing, quantum technologies and space technologies, all of which are being explored for their potential to improve maintenance support, equipment availability and overall operational readiness.

The Army Chief appreciated the workshop’s efforts to use indigenous innovation to improve equipment availability and keep military platforms and systems mission-ready. He stressed the need to adopt modern technologies to meet changing battlefield requirements and reduce dependence on external sources.

The visit also included interactions with representatives from industry and academia. In these discussions, General Seth called for collaborative research and development, effective technology absorption and stronger linkages between the military, research institutions and domestic industries.

He said closer cooperation among these stakeholders would speed up capability development and support the Army’s transformation into a technologically advanced, self-reliant and future-ready force.

The emphasis on indigenous drone development and advanced manufacturing fits into the Army’s broader push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, with domestic innovation increasingly shaping defence preparedness. Additive manufacturing, for instance, can help produce specialised components and spare parts, reducing maintenance delays and improving availability of equipment. Quantum and space technologies, meanwhile, offer longer-term possibilities for strengthening military communications, navigation and other operational functions.

The initiatives reviewed at the 515 Army Base Workshop reflect the Army’s growing effort to integrate emerging technologies into maintenance, manufacturing and operational support systems.

The Indian Army described the visit under the theme “Innovating Today. Mission Ready Tomorrow,” presenting it as part of its drive for indigenous innovation, collaborative technology development and stronger operational preparedness.

The visit also aligned with the spirit of JAI Se VIJAY, with a focus on accelerating technological capability development and building a self-reliant Indian Army capable of meeting future security challenges.
