General Dhiraj Seth Reviews Army Readiness, Tech Integration at Joshimath’s Ibex Brigade
Joshimath, Uttarakhand, October 28, 2026: Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth on October 27 visited the Ibex Brigade at Joshimath and forward areas in the strategically sensitive Middle Sector of India’s northern borders, reviewing operational preparedness, combat capability, technology integration and coordination among security agencies.
The Army Chief’s visit to the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, which shares a sensitive border with China, focused on the readiness of troops deployed in difficult high-altitude terrain. He was briefed by military commanders on current operational preparedness, capability development initiatives and steps being taken to improve the Indian Army’s combat effectiveness.
General Seth stressed the need to integrate modern technologies into military operations, strengthen surveillance and maintain constant operational vigilance in view of evolving security challenges along the Line of Actual Control.

Interacting with soldiers deployed in the forward areas, he commended all ranks for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to protecting India’s territorial integrity despite harsh weather and inhospitable mountainous conditions.
He also urged troops to embrace VIJAY, the Army’s five-point framework designed to build a more agile, technologically advanced and future-ready force capable of responding quickly across the full spectrum of military operations.
The VIJAY framework stands for Vigilance, Innovation, Jointness and Integration, Aatmanirbharta or self-reliance, and Yodha First. It reflects the Army’s emphasis on operational excellence, indigenous capability development and soldier welfare.
General Seth further highlighted the importance of closer coordination between the Armed Forces and civilian authorities, especially in disaster-prone Himalayan regions. He called for proactive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief planning through joint exercises, preparedness drills and close cooperation with civil agencies to ensure an effective response during emergencies.

As part of the visit, General Seth travelled to Mana, known as India’s First Village, near the India-China border in Chamoli district. He met local residents and reviewed efforts aimed at strengthening border communities, promoting tourism, preserving cultural heritage and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The visit comes amid continuing efforts by the Indian Army to modernise infrastructure, improve combat readiness and strengthen surveillance and connectivity along the northern borders.
The Middle Sector of the India-China boundary, which covers Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, is considered strategically important because of its mountainous terrain, high-altitude passes and proximity to the Line of Actual Control.
General Seth’s tour of Joshimath and Mana highlighted the Army’s focus on maintaining a high state of readiness, accelerating technology-driven modernisation and deepening ties with border communities.
His message of being “Mission Ready, Future Focused” reinforced the importance of preparedness, innovation and coordination in ensuring the Army remains capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges.
