General Dhiraj Seth Honours Indian Army Veterans at Pokhara Rally, Fetes Nine with Yoddha Seva Samman

Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, met Indian Army veterans and Veer Naris at an Ex-Servicemen Rally in Pokhara, Nepal, on August 19, 2026, in a gathering that combined recognition, welfare outreach and renewed engagement with the veteran community.

The rally saw General Seth felicitate nine veterans with the Yoddha Seva Samman for their continued contribution to society after retirement from military service. The awardees were Sub & Hony Capt Resham Bahadur Chettri, Sub & Hony Capt Kishan Bahadur Thapa, Sub & Hony Capt Dum Bahadur Pun, Sub & Hony Lt Bidur Thapa, Sub & Hony Capt Tara Prasad Shrestha, Hav Karn Bahadur Gurung, Hav Mabi Raj Rai, Nk Kul Bahadur Chettri and Nk Jagat Prasad Gurung.

According to the information shared from the event, the veterans being recognised have remained active in public service well beyond their years in uniform. Their efforts have included education and welfare initiatives aimed at improving life in their villages and local communities.

Some of them have also formed rescue teams to help tourists who run into difficulties in the region, extending their service into a practical community-support role that has direct value for residents and visitors alike.

General Seth praised the veterans for what was described as their selfless effort and dedication, and noted that they continue to reflect the values of Seva, commitment and camaraderie associated with military life.

Veer Naris were also honoured at the rally as a gesture of respect and gratitude for their sacrifices and contributions. In addition, mobility equipment was presented to veterans as part of ongoing efforts to support their welfare and improve their quality of life.

As part of the same engagement, the COAS dedicated the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic at Kohalpur to the veteran community. The facility is expected to improve access to healthcare services for Indian Army veterans and their dependents living in Nepal.

The Pokhara rally underlined the Indian Army’s continuing relationship with its veterans and their families, while also reflecting the institution’s stated commitment to dignity, welfare and ongoing support for those who have served.

The recognition of the nine veterans through the Yoddha Seva Samman also highlighted how military values can continue to shape lives after retirement, with former soldiers contributing to the welfare of their communities in lasting ways.
