Fire Contained at Mumbai Naval Dockyard, No Casualties Confirmed
A significant fire erupted at Mumbai's Naval Dockyard late Thursday night, prompting a rapid response from naval firefighting teams. The Indian Navy reported that the fire was successfully controlled with no casualties.
Initial reports indicate that the blaze started around 10:15 p.m. in the Survey Yard building, situated within the Western Naval Command's premises. Images shared on social media depicted flames emanating from the site, leading to the swift deployment of naval fire tenders.
Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar stated that several fire tenders and water tankers were dispatched to the location. Initially managed by the Naval Fire Brigade, additional support from the Mumbai Fire Brigade was later sought to completely extinguish the fire.
A naval spokesperson issued a statement explaining that the fire had occurred in a waste stockyard area at the dockyard. The situation was brought under control by naval firefighting units, and no injuries were reported. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
This incident highlights previous fire-related occurrences at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard. Over the years, the area has witnessed several significant incidents, such as the 2013 INS Sindhurakshak submarine explosion and the 2024 fire aboard INS Brahmaputra, emphasizing the crucial need for fire safety measures in naval facilities.
