DRDO's DEAL Completes Successful Field Trials of Indigenous Communication Systems in Uttarakhand

The Defence Electronics Application Laboratory (DEAL), a research facility under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Dehradun, has successfully completed field trials for two advanced communication systems — the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Manpack and the Compact Transhorizon Communication System (CTCS). These trials took place in the challenging terrain of Joshimath, with coordination from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and other significant user agencies.

The field evaluation saw active participation from officers of various security and paramilitary forces, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and other allied agencies.

The trials were aimed at rigorously evaluating system performance across diverse terrains and operational settings. Essential parameters outlined in the Qualitative Requirements (QRs) and Technical Documents (TDs) were tested under real-world conditions. Both the SDR Manpack and CTCS demonstrated strong and dependable functionality, successfully achieving the operational standards set by users.

This achievement represents a significant advancement in India's efforts towards self-reliance in mission-critical communication technology. The successful trials highlight DRDO's dedication to providing national security forces with cutting-edge, indigenous communication solutions tailored for challenging operational demands.
