DRDO Conducts Successful Salvo Launch of Two Pralay Missiles Off Odisha Coast

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday with the successful salvo launch of two Pralay missiles in rapid succession from the same launcher off the coast of Odisha. This event marks a crucial phase in the user evaluation trials of the domestically developed missile system.

The flight-tests occurred at approximately 10:30 am on December 31, 2025, with both missiles being launched from a land-based mobile launcher. Officials confirmed that both Pralay missiles adhered to their intended flight paths and met all objectives, showcasing the system's reliability and readiness for operation.

The launches were meticulously monitored by sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur. Terminal events were verified through telemetry systems onboard ships stationed near the designated impact areas.

About the Pralay Missile

Pralay is an indigenous solid-propellant quasi-ballistic missile developed for high-precision conventional strikes. It features advanced guidance and navigation systems and is capable of delivering various types of warheads with high accuracy against strategic and tactical targets.

The success of the salvo launch highlights the missile’s capability for rapid successive launches, an essential attribute in modern battlefields that demand saturation strikes and quick responses.

Collaborative Development Effort

The missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad, with collaboration from several DRDO laboratories, including:

Defence Research and Development Laboratory
Advanced Systems Laboratory
Armament Research and Development Establishment
High Energy Materials Research Laboratory
Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory
Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory
Research and Development Establishment Engineers
Integrated Test Range

System integration for the trials was conducted by Development-cum-Production Partners Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

The tests were observed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, along with industry partners.

Leadership Reactions

Rajnath Singh, the Raksha Mantri, congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, Defence Public Sector Undertakings, and Indian industry for the successful salvo launch, asserting that it confirms the reliability of the Pralay missile system.

Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, praised the teams involved, noting that the successful trials signify the system's imminent readiness for induction into the Armed Forces.

Strategic Significance

The successful salvo launch of Pralay enhances India's conventional precision-strike capabilities and highlights the nation's advancing technological prowess in missile systems. This achievement is a crucial step towards the missile's operational deployment, reinforcing India's deterrence posture and furthering the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in defense manufacturing.
