DG BSF Praveen Kumar Reviews Amritsar Sector Preparedness, Inaugurates 12 Mahila Prahari Barracks

Border Security Force Director General Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, reviewed the operational preparedness of the Amritsar Sector under Punjab Frontier during a two-day visit on August 14 and 15, 2026, with attention on border security arrangements, troop readiness and the progress of a new-design border fence being developed to improve management and surveillance along the international border.

During the visit, the DG BSF travelled to forward locations and assessed the deployment of troops on the border, taking stock of the security posture in a sector that remains central to the force’s day-to-day operational responsibility in Punjab. The review also covered the development of new border fencing, which is intended to further strengthen surveillance and border management in the area.

A major feature of the visit was the inauguration of 12 Mahila Prahari barracks designed to improve accommodation and welfare facilities for women personnel serving in forward areas. The initiative is aimed at supporting women border guards who carry out demanding duties in operational locations.

The Mahila Prahari Barrack at Border Out Post Havelian was inaugurated physically by Shri Praveen Kumar. In addition, 11 other Mahila Prahari barracks at various border out posts in the Gurdaspur, Firozpur and Abohar sectors of Punjab Frontier were inaugurated virtually on August 14.

The new accommodation is meant to improve working and living conditions for Mahila Praharis deployed in forward areas. Better infrastructure at these locations is expected to provide women personnel with more support while they continue to serve in challenging operational environments along the border.

As part of the visit, Shri Praveen Kumar also interacted with BSF personnel at a Prahari Sammelan, where he praised their dedication, hard work and professionalism in difficult operational conditions. The interaction provided an opportunity for the force chief to directly engage with troops stationed in the sector and acknowledge their role in maintaining border security.

He also stressed the need for personnel to keep sharpening their operational skills and remain ready to respond to changing security challenges. Highlighting the use of drones by anti-national elements for activities along the border, the DG BSF said troops must stay alert to emerging threats and adapt to new technologies and tactics being used by hostile networks.

Shri Praveen Kumar urged personnel to maintain constant vigilance and continue strengthening their capabilities in response to evolving border threats. He assured them of continued support from the force leadership for their welfare and professional needs.

During the visit, he also felicitated outstanding performers with the Commendation Roll in recognition of exemplary service and commitment to duty.

The visit reflected the BSF’s ongoing focus on improving operational preparedness, upgrading border infrastructure and supporting personnel deployed in forward areas. It also underlined the importance the force places on technology, infrastructure development and continuous skill enhancement in meeting the security challenges on the Punjab border.
