Delhi Incident: Indian Army Brigadier and Son Attacked After Challenging Public Drinking

An Indian Army Brigadier and his adult son reportedly faced an assault by a group of men in South Delhi's Vasant Enclave on the night of April 11, 2026, following the officer's objection to alcohol consumption in a parked vehicle near their home. The Indian Army has reacted seriously to the incident, deploying a Military Police team to assist the officer and has reached out to the Delhi Police to expedite the investigation and take prioritized action.

According to detailed accounts, the altercation took place around 10:00 PM when Brigadier Parminder Singh Arora and his son, an IIT graduate, were taking an evening walk after dinner near their residence. They noticed two people drinking alcohol inside a parked Mercedes car with registration number DL3CCY 0789. Brigadier Arora intervened, advising the individuals that public drinking was not allowed in the residential area, and asked them to either move elsewhere or return to their homes.

The situation quickly escalated when the men in the vehicle allegedly refused to comply, with one reportedly telling the Brigadier he could "call anyone" but they would not leave. The two men then summoned additional individuals. Shortly thereafter, seven to eight more people arrived in multiple vehicles, including taxis, and allegedly assaulted the officer and his son.

In a phone interview with NDTV, the Brigadier's son recounted the event: "It was a Saturday night. Around 10, post-dinner, we were out for a small walk, right outside our house, towards the exit of the main road there were two people drinking in a Mercedes car. My father questioned them, saying this being a public society you are not allowed to drink and asked them to go somewhere else or to their house." He noted that his father was pushed, while he himself was dragged, sustaining bruises all over his body. "The goons landed in two taxis and started assaulting me and badmouthing my mother. No weapons were involved," he stated.

Reports suggest that a Delhi Police van arrived during the altercation; however, the victims alleged that the officers present did not intervene effectively, with one constable behaving "as if he was another passerby." The family also claimed that the Vasant Vihar police station initially hesitated to register a First Information Report (FIR) when they attempted to file a complaint.

The Indian Army has responded assertively to the incident. In an official statement, the Army stated: "The authorities in the Indian Army have taken serious cognisance of the case. A Military Police team has been directed to assist the officer. The Delhi Police has been approached for an expeditious investigation and to take action on priority."

Delhi Police sources have confirmed that a complaint has been lodged and the investigation is actively underway. As of the latest information, no arrests have been made, and the police are yet to release a detailed public statement regarding the investigation's progress.

The incident has gained significant attention on social media, with veterans and citizens voicing concern over the attack on a serving Army officer and his family. Public drinking is prohibited under Delhi's excise regulations, and such events have raised questions about civic order, the safety of residents in affluent neighborhoods, and the timeliness of law enforcement response in the national capital.

This case remains ongoing, with the Indian Army's involvement highlighting the seriousness with which it views threats to its personnel. Further updates are anticipated as the Delhi Police investigation proceeds and the Military Police offers assistance.
