Defence Minister Sanctions Doubling of Financial Aid for Ex-Servicemen and Families

In a significant development for India's veteran community, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has sanctioned a 100% increase in financial aid for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and their dependents. This adjustment comes under various programs managed by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare through the Kendriya Sainik Board.
The updated assistance rates are designed to boost social security and enhance the living conditions of non-pensioner veterans, widows, and families from lower-income backgrounds.
Under the new approval, the following changes have been made:
Scheme | Previous Amount | Revised Amount |
---|---|---|
Penury Grant | ₹4,000 per month | ₹8,000 per month |
Education Grant | ₹1,000 per month per child | ₹2,000 per month per child |
Marriage Grant | ₹50,000 per beneficiary | ₹1,00,000 per beneficiary |
The increased benefits will be applicable for applications filed from November 1, 2025, onward. The decision entails an estimated annual financial requirement of ₹257 crore, which will be sourced from the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF) under the Raksha Mantri Ex-Servicemen Welfare Fund.
This initiative represents a crucial move by the Ministry of Defence to enhance the welfare of the nation's veterans and their families, underscoring the government's steadfast dedication to recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of India's Ex-Servicemen community.
