Daljit Singh Chaudhary to Retire as BSF Director General on November 30, 2025
Daljit Singh Chaudhary, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1990 batch, is currently serving as the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). He is scheduled to retire on November 30, 2025, concluding a notable 34-year tenure in policing and internal security.
Chaudhary is a senior officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre and has been in significant leadership roles within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Prior to his appointment as the BSF Director General in August 2024, he led the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) as Director General and also temporarily held the position of Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). His leadership is acclaimed for decisiveness, transparency, and strategic insight.
In the earlier stages of his career, Chaudhary served as Special Director General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and as Additional Director General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), where he was instrumental in improving coordination between the country's security agencies.
While with the Uttar Pradesh Police, he commanded several key operations, notably the 2005 confrontation with notorious gangster Nirbhay Gurjar and the 2017 anti-terror action against the ISIS Khorasan module in Lucknow.
Chaudhary's distinguished service has earned him numerous accolades, including four Gallantry Medals, the President’s Police Medal, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal.
With academic credentials in Science and Law, Chaudhary is also a trained skydiver and marksman, reflecting his courage, discipline, and forward-thinking leadership.
As he approaches retirement, the paramilitary and police sectors in India are preparing to bid farewell to one of their most esteemed and dynamic figures, marking the conclusion of a significant era in the nation's internal security landscape.
