DAC Greenlights ₹5,150 Crore Dharashakti EW System to Enhance Indian Army’s Communication Capabilities

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has taken a significant step in advancing battlefield communications and bolstering indigenous defence capabilities by approving the large-scale induction of the 'Dharashakti' Integrated Electronic Warfare (EW) System for the Indian Army. The project, with an estimated value of ₹5,150 crore, is set to enhance the Army's capacity to control the electromagnetic spectrum during operations.

Developed locally, the Dharashakti system integrates sophisticated communication (COM) and non-communication (Non-COM) electronic warfare technologies. This integration allows the Armed Forces to intercept, monitor, and disrupt adversary signals while ensuring the security of their military communication networks.

The system is specifically designed for desert and plain terrains like the Samaghat and Shatrughat sectors, optimized to perform reliably in high-temperature, open-field environments, and ensuring effective long-range visibility and signal clarity.

Functioning with a dual-segment structure, the EW suite includes:

Segment Function
COM Handles radio-frequency interception, analysis, and secure transmission.
Non-COM Focuses on radar detection, jamming, and advanced electronic countermeasures.

Furthermore, Dharashakti comprises a state-of-the-art Electro-Optical (EO) suite, equipped with high-resolution visual and infrared sensors. This setup facilitates real-time surveillance, target acquisition, and threat assessment, even in challenging conditions.

The radio communication capabilities of the system include robust, long-range transmitters with electronic counter-countermeasure (ECCM) features. These ensure secure and uninterrupted communication, even amidst hostile attempts at jamming.

Defence officials have expressed that the approval of the Dharashakti project highlights India's advancing self-reliance in cutting-edge military technologies. It marks a significant move towards achieving Atmanirbharta in defence manufacturing. Upon deployment, Dharashakti is expected to significantly boost India's electronic warfare readiness in sensitive border zones, providing the Army with a substantial technological advantage in both tactical and strategic operations.
