DAC Clears ₹67,000 Crore Defence Proposals to Enhance Indian Armed Forces' Readiness

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved procurement and upgrade proposals valued at approximately ₹67,000 crore. These measures aim to bolster the combat readiness and technological superiority of the Indian Armed Forces.

The DAC has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the Indian Army to acquire Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sights for BMP infantry combat vehicles. This acquisition is expected to enhance night-driving capabilities and the mobility of mechanised infantry units.

The Indian Navy received AoNs for several projects, including Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, BrahMos Fire Control Systems and Launchers, and the enhancement of BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile Systems. These autonomous crafts are intended to improve the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities by facilitating the detection, classification, and neutralisation of underwater threats.

For the Indian Air Force, the DAC approved the procurement of Mountain Radars, which will strengthen air surveillance capabilities in high-altitude areas. Additionally, the upgrade of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System is set to enhance overall air defence effectiveness.

In a significant move benefiting all three military branches, the DAC sanctioned the acquisition of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft. These aircraft are equipped to carry multiple payloads and weapons, enabling long-range, continuous surveillance and strike operations.

Furthermore, the council approved proposals for maintaining the Indian Air Force’s C-17 and C-130J transport aircraft fleets. This includes a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the S-400 Long Range Air Defence Missile System.

According to the Ministry of Defence, these approvals underscore the government’s dedication to modernising the armed forces and enhancing India’s preparedness across land, sea, and air domains.
