CRPF Personnel Killed in Udhampur Gorge Accident; Injuries Reported

Three members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after their vehicle veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Udhampur district's Kadwa area on Thursday morning.
The unfortunate accident occurred around 10:30 am as the CRPF unit was returning from a deployment in Basantgarh. The vehicle, part of a convoy navigating the narrow hilly roads of the Kandva–Basantgarh route, lost control and plunged into the gorge.
Police and local residents promptly initiated a rescue operation, transporting the injured to a nearby hospital. Medical staff are currently providing care to the wounded, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed concern on the social media platform X, stating, “Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. I have just now spoken to DC Ms. Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation. Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help being ensured.”
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also extended his condolences, stating, “Saddened by the loss of CRPF personnel due to an accident near Udhampur. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Directed senior officials to ensure best possible care and assistance,” according to a post by the LG’s office on X.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. This incident has underscored the dangers faced by security personnel not only in combat but also while traversing hazardous terrains.
Authorities have confirmed that all necessary support will be provided to the families of the deceased and injured personnel.
