CRPF Jawan Muguram Ramakanth Killed, Three Injured in Telangana NH-163 Crash

A 36-year-old Central Reserve Police Force jawan was killed and three of his colleagues were injured when a sand-laden lorry lost control and crashed into their vehicle on National Highway 163 in Telangana’s Mulugu district on Thursday morning, October 8, 2026. Two government employees travelling in a car behind the CRPF vehicle were also hurt in the chain collision.

The deceased was identified as Muguram Ramakanth, also reported as M. Ramakanth, a constable attached to the CRPF’s 39th Battalion based at Wazeedu mandal in Mulugu district. He was originally from Karimnagar district. The injured CRPF personnel were named as Girish Kumar, Prem Prakash and Ram Jan Prasad, also reported as Ram Prasad.

According to Mulugu Superintendent of Police Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, the accident took place at around 10 a.m. near the Pasra Forest Check Post in Govindaraopet mandal on the Pasra-Tadvai stretch of NH-163, also described as the Warangal-Eturunagaram road. The lorry first hit a DCM goods carrier van carrying the four CRPF jawans, who were travelling from Eturunagaram towards Mulugu. Ramakanth died on the spot.

The same lorry then rammed into a car coming behind the CRPF vehicle, injuring two officials of the Govindaraopet Mandal Parishad Development Office. They were identified in reports as Safiya, also referred to as Sd Sofiya, a junior assistant, and Ramesh, also reported as P. Ramesh, a typist. The superintendent of police said both were out of danger.

Tadvai Sub-Inspector K. Jagadish said the jawans were in the DCM vehicle when the speeding truck hit it, after which it struck the car behind. Police reached the spot soon after the crash and used an earth mover to clear the damaged vehicles from the road. The accident led to a traffic jam stretching for more than two kilometres.

Ramakanth’s body was shifted to the government hospital in Mulugu for postmortem examination, while the injured were taken to MGM Hospital in Warangal for treatment. Police have registered a case and an investigation is under way.

Initial reports said the lorry was loaded with sand and had gone out of control. Some accounts attributed the crash to overspeeding and rash driving, though the exact cause has not yet been established. Further details on the condition of the injured jawans were awaited as the probe continued.

Authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the collision on one of the district’s key highway stretches, which was briefly disrupted by the crash and the resulting traffic blockade.
