COAS General Dhiraj Seth Honors SDM Khour Satish Sharma for Leadership in Operation Sindoor Civilian Evacuation

General Dhiraj Seth, the Chief of the Army Staff, honored Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khour, Satish Sharma, at the Sunderbani Brigade for his exceptional leadership during Operation Sindoor. This accolade acknowledges Sharma's pivotal role in orchestrating a massive civilian evacuation along the Line of Control (LoC), which protected thousands amid severe cross-border shelling and shifting security conditions.

In Operation Sindoor, Satish Sharma managed the relocation of over 73,000 civilians from 53 border villages within an 8-kilometre range of the LoC. This swift and organized action addressed the needs of the majority of the approximately 86,000 residents in these high-risk areas, reflecting the effective response to the escalating threat.

Sharma's leadership saw nearly 17,000 displaced individuals housed in relief camps that provided necessary shelter and aid. The evacuation demanded tight cooperation between civil authorities, the Indian Army, local officials, and emergency teams to secure the safe transfer of civilians despite challenging ground conditions.

Officials noted Sharma's on-ground presence throughout the operation, where he personally oversaw evacuation efforts amidst heavy shelling, infrastructure damage, and obstructed routes. His collaboration with Army units and field teams allowed for real-time monitoring and timely decision-making, crucial in safeguarding vulnerable populations.

His decisive actions are credited with saving at least 80 lives, with timely evacuations occurring just before shelling destroyed homes. The operation's success ensured zero civilian casualties in the Khour Sub-Division, marking a significant humanitarian success under severe operational pressures.

The recognition by General Dhiraj Seth highlights the vital role of civil-military collaboration during crises. The joint efforts facilitated the swift relocation of thousands to safety and ensured continued support and relief to those affected by the conflict.

General Seth praised Satish Sharma for his dedication, courage, and commitment during the operation, emphasizing that effective leadership in emergencies is critical to protecting civilian lives. The acknowledgment reflects the Indian Army's appreciation for the steadfast support of civil authorities in maintaining public safety and reinforcing resilience in border areas facing operational challenges.

The success of the evacuation effort in Operation Sindoor serves as a testament to the efficacy of coordinated disaster and conflict response strategies. It illustrates how timely decision-making, determined leadership, and seamless cooperation between military and civil entities can mitigate the human toll in conflict-prone border regions.
