Chinese-Made Drone Discovered Near Indian Border in Tripura; BSF Investigates

The Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a thorough investigation following the discovery of a Chinese-made drone near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. Found by a young boy in a paddy field close to the Durgabari Border Outpost, the drone is equipped with two high-resolution cameras and has an approximate weight of 915 grams. The field lies just 650 meters from the international boundary.

Officials reported that the boy, unaware of the drone's significance, took it home and washed it before his family alerted local authorities. The Tripura Police swiftly took charge of the drone and dispatched it to the state's forensic science laboratory for initial analysis. Once the forensic examination is completed, the drone will be transferred to the BSF headquarters in New Delhi for a detailed evaluation.

Following the discovery, BSF and Tripura Police officials convened to synchronize their investigative efforts. The source and purpose of the drone remain unidentified, and a comprehensive investigation is anticipated to determine whether it was intended for surveillance or other activities.

In response to increased internal instability in Bangladesh, especially after the ousting of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, the BSF has intensified its vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border. With an 856-kilometer shared border, Tripura is among India’s most sensitive and porous states, susceptible to infiltration, smuggling, and cross-border criminal activities.

While most of the border has been secured with fencing, sporadic incidents continue to cause concern. The recent drone recovery has heightened existing fears about potential foreign surveillance efforts and technological intrusions in border regions.
