China Urges Pakistan on Chinese Nationals' Safety, Highlights Strong Bilateral Support

During a crucial diplomatic meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan. This discussion took place with Pakistan's Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, marking Munir's first visit to Beijing following Pakistan's recent military standoff with India during Operation Sindoor in May.

Wang emphasized that ensuring the security of Chinese workers and investments is a top priority for Beijing. This concern arises from an increase in attacks by Baloch militants targeting Pakistani forces and China-supported infrastructure projects, many of which are components of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In response, Munir assured the Chinese leadership that Pakistan's armed forces would take "all necessary measures" to protect Chinese personnel and assets. He affirmed that the strategic alliance between the two nations remains "solid as a rock" and has stood the test of time.

Wang commended the Pakistani military for being a "staunch defender of national interests" and reiterated China’s consistent support. According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the two countries have consistently backed each other on core interest issues and have faced challenges together.

Wang highlighted that Pakistan continues to be a priority in China's regional diplomacy, which also served as a subtle message to New Delhi amid escalating tensions between India and China. He urged the Pakistani military to intensify efforts against terrorism and safeguard Chinese citizens and institutions throughout Pakistan.

Earlier this year, in an unusual move, China deployed private security contractors to protect its projects in Pakistan, reflecting increasing concerns about the security situation in regions such as Balochistan.

The Indian Army has previously alleged that China provided Pakistan with real-time intelligence inputs during Operation Sindoor and that Pakistani forces used Chinese-origin equipment in the conflict, much of which reportedly malfunctioned under pressure.

Munir acknowledged China's enduring support and stated that collaboration with Beijing enjoys the full endorsement of the Pakistani populace. He expressed gratitude to China for its contributions to Pakistan's economic and social progress.

The visit highlighted the strengthening political and military ties between Beijing and Islamabad amidst rising regional tensions.
