China Defies U.S. Tariff Warning Over Continued Russian Oil Imports

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded strongly to the United States following Washington's indication that it may impose substantial tariff increases if China continues importing oil from Russia.
In a social media statement, the Chinese foreign ministry declared, "China will always ensure its energy supply in ways that serve our national interests. Tariff wars have no winners. Coercion and pressuring will not achieve anything."

This declaration highlights Beijing's determination to maintain its energy relations with Moscow, despite mounting international pressure. Recently, the U.S. suggested potential trade consequences for nations that persist in significant purchases of Russian oil, citing concerns about financing Russia's military actions.
Nevertheless, China has made it clear that it will resist external pressure, emphasizing, "China will firmly defend its sovereignty, security and development interests."
The comments reflect the enduring tensions between the two economic giants, particularly concerning trade and geopolitical matters related to the Ukraine conflict. The statement also underlines China's broader perspective that unilateral sanctions and tariff threats do not effectively address global crises.
