CDS General Anil Chauhan Launches Tri Services Academia Technology Symposium in New Delhi

The first-ever Tri Services Academia Technology Symposium (T-SATS) began today at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. This event aims to integrate the research and development efforts of the Services and academia to advance unique and futuristic technologies specifically designed for the Indian Armed Forces. The symposium was opened by Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan.

Participants at the symposium included directors and department heads from leading academic and research institutions. Additionally, students from 62 institutes, such as IISc, IITs, IIITs, and private technology schools, were in attendance.

During his speech, General Chauhan discussed the changing landscape of modern warfare, which is increasingly shaped by both kinetic and non-kinetic domains, requiring sophisticated technological integration. He stressed the importance of collaboration between academia, startups, and industry to develop doctrines and indigenous capabilities that span weapons, platforms, and networks, meeting the operational needs of the future. He advocated for a national effort to enhance innovation, positioning India as a leader in next-generation defense technologies.

The CDS also officially opened a Technology Exhibition, showcasing 43 innovative exhibits from academia. These exhibits were assessed by experts from the three Services to determine their potential military applications. Promising projects will be considered for research and development partnerships and funding.

A notable aspect of the symposium was a series of 95 structured one-on-one meetings between academic innovators and service representatives. These sessions provided a platform for innovators to present R&D proposals and receive strategic advice on transforming these ideas into military applications.

The day also saw the signing of Memorandums of Understanding with various academic institutions, including Ajeenkya DY Patil University, IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Rashtriya Raksha University, and others.

The symposium, themed "Vivek va Anusandhan se Vijay" (विवेक व अनुसंधान से विजय) – Victory through Wisdom and Research, marks a significant move towards closer collaboration between academia and the Armed Forces. It aims to foster sustainable partnerships that will co-create solutions ready to address future national security challenges.
