Captain Rajveer Singh Chauhan, who tragically piloted the helicopter that crashed near Gaurikund in Uttarakhand on Sunday morning, brought over 15 years of valuable experience from his time in the Indian Army, specializing in military aviation.

A resident of Jaipur's Shastri Nagar, Chauhan transitioned to a civilian pilot role with Aryan Aviation Private Ltd in October 2024. On the day of the crash, he was piloting a Bell 407 helicopter, which was transporting Char Dham pilgrims from Kedarnath to Guptkashi. The helicopter crashed in Rudraprayag district's Gauri Mai Khark area, resulting in the deaths of all seven people on board.

Chauhan's professional background includes significant experience navigating challenging terrains during his Army tenure. He was adept at managing aerial operations and was proficient in both the operation and maintenance of various helicopter models.

The crash has resonated deeply within both civilian aviation and military circles, with many paying tribute to the former Army officer. Known for his dedication to flying, Chauhan was recognized for his contribution to national service and his transition to commercial heli-services, where his expertise was particularly valued in managing the demanding conditions of Uttarakhand’s pilgrimage routes.

While investigations into the crash's cause are ongoing, Captain Chauhan is remembered as a highly disciplined and skilled pilot, renowned for applying the precision of military training to all his missions.
