Brother-Sister Duo from Uttar Pradesh's Etah Commissioned as Indian Army Officers
In an inspiring achievement, siblings Lieutenant Mansi Dixit and Lieutenant Priyanshu Dixit from a small village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district have been commissioned as officers in the Indian Army. This significant milestone was reached during the Passing Out Parade at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai on March 7, 2026. Their commissioning marks a historic first for their village, as they are the inaugural individuals to become commissioned officers in the Indian Armed Forces from their community.
The elder sibling, Mansi Dixit, is 25 and holds an LLB degree from Delhi University. Her path to becoming an Army officer was marked by steadfast determination, having been recommended to the academy five times before her successful entry. Her younger brother, Priyanshu Dixit, aged 23, completed a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and entered the academy through the NCC Special Entry Scheme. Together, they navigated the rigorous training at OTA, providing each other with support and encouragement throughout the demanding journey.
Their inspiration to serve their country is deeply embedded in their family history. Their father, Vijender Bahadur Dixit, once harbored dreams of joining the armed forces himself. Despite his time as a Rashtriya Defence Corps cadet and NCC participant, he was unable to pursue this career due to medical reasons. Nonetheless, he instilled in his children a sense of discipline, determination, and duty, regularly guiding them through morning study sessions and emphasizing hard work. For him, seeing his children achieve what he could not is the realization of his own aspirations.
Raised in a rural environment, the Dixit siblings regularly traveled 15 kilometers to school, an experience that solidified their determination and strengthened their sibling bond. Their modest upbringing taught them perseverance and dedication, qualities that were crucial in their journey to the OTA parade ground in Chennai.
Post-commissioning, Lieutenant Mansi Dixit is set to join the Army Aviation Corps, while Lieutenant Priyanshu Dixit will serve with the Sikh Regiment in the infantry. Their achievements underscore the expanding opportunities for rural Indian youth to excel in the armed forces, fulfilling both personal dreams and community hopes.
The siblings described their training at the academy as both challenging and memorable. Mansi credited her brother’s support as vital to her motivation, while Priyanshu expressed pride in sharing the journey with his sister and embarking on their service to the nation together.
