Bihar Officially Declared Free of Naxal Activities After Last Maoist Surrender in Munger

Bihar has now been declared free from Naxalite activities following the surrender of Suresh Koda, the last known armed Maoist, in the Munger district. This development marks a significant milestone in the state's longstanding battle against Left-Wing Extremism.

Rakesh Kumar, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Munger Range, affirmed that there is no longer any active armed Naxalite squad in any of the 23 districts that were once troubled by insurgency. This announcement is the result of ongoing counter-insurgency operations and the coordinated efforts of security forces over an extended period.

Nikhil Dhanraj Nippanikar, the District Magistrate of Munger, mentioned that Suresh Koda will receive benefits under the Central Government's surrender and rehabilitation policy, which aims to help former insurgents reintegrate into society. Koda's wife, Pramila Devi, expressed her relief and happiness about the decision, noting that the family now experiences a renewed sense of peace and hope.

During its peak, particularly in the 1970s and again in 2012, Naxalite influence extended to 23 districts in Bihar, with central Bihar being notably affected. However, increased security efforts, development initiatives, and rehabilitation policies have led to a substantial decrease in insurgent activities. Notably, no Naxalite incidents were reported in 2025, and 220 Naxalites were arrested during the year, highlighting the state's progress towards achieving stability, peace, and development.
